Pretty Bulli and Kidd Called Quest Aren’t BASIC

“BASIC” is an acronym from rapper Pretty Bulli which stands for “Broads are Always Secretly in Competition.” The song is one that speaks on the way some women see everything as a chance to one-up their fellow women. Plus, the double entendre of being basic–when put together with the song’s meaning–give us an overall look at how Bulli feels about many within society (regardless of gender). Produced by Kidd Called Quest (who is slowly becoming one of my favorite producers), “BASIC” is a bop while also being conscious. It wants women to work together to overthrow BS in the world. No one gets anywhere when you’re in constant competition with each other. Check out the track below and support dope music in all its forms.
