I love this one, plain and simple. It’s like a mix between boombap and CHH with a bit of Club Music and a touch of Chance the Rapper. It’s an eclectic mix of sounds put together with stellar bars that, as mentioned in the title, read/sound like a “journal entry to let [his] audience know” that he’s still here, still grinding and still putting out great records, even if he’s sick (the track was written after j dreaming got COVID). It’s sonically pleasing, it’s got bars for days and it’s one of those songs that’ll get stuck in your head. That’s because while it’s shorter than average, the “Sick Freestyle” makes up for length with a ton of heart, honesty and faith-based hope for the future of his life and career.
