BKM Speaks on Depression a with “BAD DAY”

Depressions sucks, we all know this. Anyone can—and everyone does—get depressed during your time on Earth. It’s how you deal with that depression that can, quite literally, make or end you. I say that from experience.

Over the last few week and months, I have dealt with depression, as I am someone with “rapid cycling bipolar disorder.” People like me have many highs and lows. They aren’t always the “I’m going to buy a house and max out all my cards” heights, nor are they always the “playing in traffic seems like a good idea” lows. However, rapid cycling essentially means you become just like the stereotypical bipolar character from the 2000s.

So, when I say “I get depression,” I REALLY understand what people go through.

That said, I don’t know what BKM has gone through in his life. Even with his depression, however, the Baltimore-area artist continue to push on via songs like “BAD DAY.” The track takes time to acknowledge that some [crap] is [messed] up and that BKM isn’t feeling his best. I respect that deeply, as not everything’s going to go great all the time. However, for the artist and his listeners, “DAY” also gives us all a glimmer of hope. It doesn’t brush off depression and it doesn’t give it any more power than it deserves. The track amounts to this: “sometimes, life sucks. It’s part of the experience. It’s okay to not be okay, as cliched as that sounds. However, you can’t let the bad or intrusive thoughts win.” I respect BKM for this one. It also helps that, sonically, the song is a bop.
