Teenaged singer/songwriter Sekou is one of those artists who you should anticipate every new move we get. No, I’m not saying that for his team or because it was instructed to me. He’s quite literally been listed as an “Artist to Watch” by Amazon Music. The 19-year-old Londoner has a way about him that gives us a mix of Giveon meets Juice WRLD.
That is also true on his latest, “Crying.” There’s a healthy heaping of emotions here that comment on the way life goes and how love–and its end–can help one discover something new. Whether or not that something is self-aimed is beside the point, though the song definitely has relatable topics and lyrics. “Crying” discusses heartbreak, how some of us will try to “fuck the pain away” instead of outright dealing with it and it deals with Sekou’s own growth on this relationship path.
You may remember Sekou from first song on SOTB, “Better Man.” He picks up where he left off there and on his most-recent project. If you need heartfelt lyrics about a relationship-gone-awry, this one’s for you. If you don’t, but want soulful lyrics that are as vulnerable as they are emotionally-sound, check this one out below and support dope music in all its forms. This young man has a bright future ahead.
