Sir Will Gives Us Love on “U&I”

TL;DR: I like the song, so I’m going to talk about how it makes me feel.

I’m always a fan of loverman raps. In fact, some of my biggest songs (including “Se Raquel” AKA “Seroquel”) have been songs about women. Remember, I’m the guy who “scrapped 3 EPs that went from A to Ashley,” after all. But not everyone can do loverman raps well. With his latest song, “U&I,” Compton-born artist Sir Will makes it known that he’s one of those guys.

Thematically, it reminds me of Wale’s “Lotus Flower Bomb,” which is an…interesting song in my life (I’ll just say that). Will speaks on his ideal partner and how they can get together and make beautiful music and/or love together. I also like that the track lends itself well to stepping, which is something I’ve longed to do again. I say “again” because there are still DJs at events who’ll play R. K**** when it comes to getting a two-step session going.

I also like how this one is youthful and not really an overly explicit type of song. It’s mostly family-friendly in its lyrics, which works well because it can also be a radio hit (a la “Nobody’s Perfect” or the aforementioned “Flower Bomb”). Sonically and lyrically, he’s coming correct with this woman with charm, grace and, most importantly, respect for her, her body and her essence. Hell, I would’ve and have swooned if someone comes to me with that sort of combination. If you want to hear a great love rap that doesn’t devolve into clichés or raunchiness, check this one out above and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
