M Soto Reflects on “Dream 2 Night”

The first thing about this song is that I realized that the song reminds me of a Maybach Music track featuring Rick Ross, Meek Mill and Wale, circa 2012. The sound has a majestic air to it, one that allows rapper M Soto to speak on life–both his and how others may switch up on you when things go left. However, instead of pointing fingers, he takes the blame for his own part in helping to foster that “love my money, not me” mindset among some of those who’ve turned their backs. In other words, he admits that it’s his fault for letting people try to tear him down; he’s been a good and nice guy and people have taken advantage of that. Though, that’s not where the story ends. Otherwise, the journey would come off as being incomplete. The song also makes note that Soto is flipping off all his naysayers because, well, he doesn’t plan to go gently into that good night.

My only “gripe” with “Dream 2 Night,” if you can call it that, is that it’s a shorter song. There are two hooks and a verse; this puts the song at just under two-and-a-half minutes. However, like peaches and eggplants, it’s not always (just) about the size. It’s also about what you do with what you’re given and the breadth of it all. That’s why this one shines even though it’s got a shorter runtime. It offers a lot of knowledge, introspection and growth. Plus, the mix of vocals, lyrics and the beat are all worthy of a chef’s kiss.

Overall, it’s a track that’ll snap you out of a funk and remind you that even if you’re not ready for the day, it can’t always be BS, smoldering your light and self-depreciation. Sometimes, you’ve got to wake up, get up, get out there and do something and grow. If you don’t, you may squander your chances to achieve greatness and/or push negative vibes out of your life. Anyway, before I get too philosophical, check out the song below and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
