While some of you are going cuckoo over ye, I’m over here listening to this new track from Lecrae and Zaytoven. It’s weird, because I remember I was in a Twitter argument with Lecrae over religion and the like. However, I never said that the brother couldn’t make a dope song with spiritual overtones. He’s, for me, a rung below an artist like Big K.R.I.T. when it comes to making religion-steeped hip-hop feel organic and not “corny.” I say a rung below K.R.I.T. because, while they’ve collaborated, I still favor K.R.I.T.’s approach over Lecrae’s. That’s just my opinion.
Anyway, before I get on the bad side of Lecrae’s fans, the new track, “Get Back Right,” is trappy but gospel-friendly. It’s got the mainstream sensibilities while still mixing in that Lecrae’s God is a great one and allows Lecrae to battle demons and ignorance on the daily. In other words, it’s fire emojis throughout. The track is slated to appear on the Lecrae/Zaytoven collab project Let The Trap Say Amen, and if it’s anything like this one, it’ll be a nice collection of music, whether you’re super Christian or not so much.
Check it out below and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
