The North Carolina rhymesayer has been busy the last few weeks and months, running up to the release of his latest project. This week, Shreve dropped two quick tracks, “Shreve Who?” and “Pylon.” While both tracks kicked their fair share of ass, I’ve got to admit: “Pylon” is a stronger track for me. It takes the professor into an arena he usually doesn’t go in (somewhat turn-up anthemic rap) and lets him run wild over funky production.

To be a dope MC is not only being able to twist words to your will, but also knowing how to talk your ish in a way that no one else can. Look at DaBaby, for example. He’s got bars, but we come back to him because of how he says his peace as well as what that peace is. Shreve accomplishes a similar feat on both singles. However, it’s the fact that he hops on the “Pylon” beat and feels right at home that brings me back to it.
