In Monday’s episode of The Speed Report, I spoke with my brother True (a/k/a Rhoda’s Son) about representation of Black people in media over the years. Hell of a way to cap a birthday weekend, for sure. We also touched on how starved some of us were for that representation that we’d latch onto anyone with a Black face. From Good Times to The Parkers to Bill Cosby (both the man and the TV dad) to Barack Obama, True and I discuss the need for representation and the dangers of not having enough positivity in that representation. Stereotypes, unrealistic aspirations, and the desire to just have a good group of friends who’d be there regardless–we speak on them all.
