This track from Hak Black is like a blend between lo-fi bedroom R&B and Dwele. In other words, it’s very soulful but also intimate. It’s as if he’s trying to speak directly to the audience, one at a time.
“Today” finds the singer dealing with moving on from a relationship that meant a lot to him. Black’s hook is the thing that pulls everything together, as he’s singing about putting the old things away today and moving on–regardless of how painful it can potentially be. From finding that old t-shirt to just embracing the past, a breakup–and loss in general–can take a lot out of you. That’s the feeling I got when I heard “Today.” Check out the song below and remember to both check in on people going through it and support dope music in all its forms.
