On “LIFT,” New Jersey collective Vibe World Order showcase a lot of versatility within the track. Switching flows like some folks switch clothes, the group decides to rap their asses off while–in the video–planning to rob someone and save one of their groupmates. I like the setup of the video, as it tells a story while featuring the group going off lyrically. Sometimes, you get one or the other. Here, we get both which is great for the senses.
VWO call this one a “half boastful, half working-class anthem.” I hear that, because it’s got some swaggy lines while also showing a bit of blue collar mentality. One of my favorite parts of the song is where the sound devolves a bit into a mosh pit-ready track, mainly because it keeps the energy up. I’m looking forward to the conclusion of the story presented and I’ve got to do the thing now: support dope music in all its forms.
