Nadim Azzam hit my line a few days ago to introduce his latest cut, “The Debt.” This song deals with learning to deal with changes throughout life, from friendships falling apart to coping mechanisms not really working like they once did. I felt this one on a personal level, because over the past few years I’ve gone through something similar.
From a simply lyrical standpoint, Azzam sounds like a mix between Mac and J. Cole as the title suggests. The rhyme schemes are there, as is the sometimey harmonizing. However, that’s only half of the story. You can sound like whomever you want. That said, if you’re not spitting something that touches my soul…I’m not listening to it, like KRIT said. Azzam’s lyricism and flow touched my soul and made me feel what he put down that much more.
