On “Making the (B)and,” LocalBlac Sets Up His Holding These Balloons LP

Above, we’ve got a track from underground artist LocalBlac, who’s based in LA and has roots in Little Rock, Arkansas. “Making the (B)and” is but one track off of the Holding These Balloons LP. However, I couldn’t think of a better way to introduce people to the album proper. See, this one, like the album, deals with pressures and a general sense of isolation felt by many artists as we’re about to enter year three of the ‘VID. I

t’s frantic in its approach in some ways, as it features a high-energy beat and rapid-fire verses. That said, it also delves into the pressures indie artists feel during the pandemic, from trying to get their music right and ready to—once again—dealing with that feeling of aloneness that comes with forced isolation. From a purely sonic standpoint, the song is great and lyrically impressive. It’s when you dive beyond the rhyme schemes that things get heavy and hearty.

I took a listen to pieces of the album proper after hearing this one. If I can say so, I think that it’s better to hear this one within the cone txt of the album. It’s a great song and can stand alone, but is better with the rest of the project.

If you’re in the market for music with as much lyrical bite as it has reflection and introspection, check it out and support dope music in all its forms.
