Bre SwaGz Presents Turn Around

I first came in contact with Bre SwaGz with her song “Drop.” While it was a solid song, it didn’t really fit the aesthetic of what I’d typically post about on the site. Fast forward two months and SwaGz sends me her latest, “Turn Around.” Thankfully, my initial rejection to “Drop” didn’t deter her from sending me more music. Otherwise, I may have missed out on hearing this one.

“Turn Around,” to paraphrase part of the second verse, is “soul food full of veggies.”

It’s healthy and hearty in its approach, but still makes you think about why she’s going as hard as she is. The lyrics are rapid-fire but have an aim and a purpose to each line. Sonically, it’s soulful but also melodic and bar-heavy, kind of like a mix between DeJ Loaf and old-school Nicki Minaj. The song itself is, to me, a perfect introduction to SwaGz for the SOTB readership. She clearly has some great bars here and she put everything together to drop one hell of a track, one that’s as emotionally sound as it is lyrically sound.
