Big Boss Vette’s been on my radar since the summer. The rapper has consistently put out great music. On “Heavy,” though, she trades the boss flows for “I really came from nothing” energies and it’s a sight to behold. The visuals themselves feature Vette in a school-like setting, talking to a mentor. It’s a simple premise, but one that helps hammer the points home.
Vette’s improved on each song I’ve heard her on and “Heavy” is no different, because she takes the minimalist piano beat and rips it. It’s the perfect counterpoint to the somewhat braggadocios self-titled track she dropped in 2021. Vette’s flow is top-notch and her lyricism is also pretty great as well. Overall, this is, for me, the best song of her young career from a purely lyrical standpoint. She discusses some of her losses and many of her wins over the past few years. The losses helped the wins taste that much sweeter and made her take inventory on what’s really important in her life. Thankfully, she doesn’t show and signs of slowing down and, if “Heavy” is any indication, she’s about to go full throttle.
