Eight-piece band Jank Setup hit my line this week with their latest song, “Prince of Something.” Featuring on their debut album, Look Who’s Talking, “Prince” features sick funk rhythms and melodic progressions that take me back to older groups. The premise of the track is also simple and relatable. I mean, who hasn’t thought they were meant for something bigger–even if they haven’t reached their full potential yet? I sure have felt destined for bigger and better things in my career’s infancy. Otherwise, there’d probably be no SOTB, neither the site nor the artist.
I like the soul the group gave this topic. I also like that the lead singer has a cool, pop-soul thing going with his voice. It’s smooth, but also quite infectious in its approach to the lyrics. If you’re in the mood for fun funk about surpassing your current state of affairs, check out “Prince of Something” and support dope music in all its forms.
