MJangles has been on my radar since “To Infinity” dropped about a month or so ago. The young man’s quite talented and has a grasp on musical concepts that even some older heads may struggle with. On “The Writers,” Jangles speaks on someone who has changed his life for the better–even though they’re no longer together or speaking.
The storytelling element on “The Writers” reminds me of a mix between Childish Gambino and MBDTF-era Kanye West (specifically songs like “Runaway”). That’s down to the emotions I feel on each bar. The singing elements also remind me of “Runaway,” but as it may’ve come out had Drake been making a toast to the assholes and scumbags versus Kanye. Overall, it’s a helluva song about romance, how it can make us better and how it can change us in ways we never would’ve imagined before. This muse of his must’ve been powerful, because you can feel the pain, sorrow and even bittersweet happiness in each rhyme.
The Harvard student is quickly making a name for himself over on SOTB. As a matter of fact, I hope the world eventually takes notice too. After all, the kids are the future. Check out “The Writers” below and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
