UK artist Otis Mensah’s “Black Box” is one of those emotionally-charged tracks that gets you going and makes you contemplate calling up someone from your past. The jazzy instrumental, the emotional lyrics, the “I wish things were different” vibes that pour out of the song. It’s all there to remind us that life is finite and we should try our damnedest to enjoy it and its fleeting moments. Why? Well, simply put, those moments won’t be there forever. I think it’s this finite nature of life that makes “Black Box” stand out to me.
He wants his peace, but knows it’s a bit further. This is compounded by the visuals, which feature Mensah isolated from everything besides a few flashing images playing on his face. It’s as if the video is saying “while these are things I wish I said before, I’ve got to get them out in the open if I want to gain my peace.” At the end of everything, there’s a bit of a bittersweet relief that washes over everything. I’m intrigued to see what else Mensah will come out with, but I know it’ll be worth a watch. Check out the visuals above and support dope music in all its forms.
