She-Rōze hit my line with her visuals for “Stand By Me” a few moments ago. Reading the “about this song” made me want to check it out. This track, which appears on her debut album, presents a message of strength, hope and resilience to survivors of a variety of events. Be it depression, oppression, assault of any forms or suicide attempts, She-Rōze speaks from the heart on “Stand By Me.”
I love this one because of its uplifting, almost prayer-esque, nature of the track. Produced by her husband, Indigenous hip-hop artist Artson, along with collaborators BBoy Wicket and Huca Bera, the Filipino-Cuban American artist tells her story while also being a beacon of light for those who’ve been through the same thing. The visuals are equally calming and representative of living, even with scars from the past–as those scars don’t get to dictate who we are. Proceeds from this song go to The Shero Collective, a woman-led nonprofit dedicated to supporting cultural advocacy, economic empowerment and more for the hip-hop and BIPOC communities.
If you’re a fan of this one, check out her debut album, We Rise, and support dope music in all its forms.
