While I’m away, I’ve still got some bangers to talk about, such as this one. A song for the underrated and underappreciated, Michigan artist James Gardin mixes something that sounds, sonically, like a mix between Chance and Latrell James to get his point across on “Trophies.” I love the clean aspect of this one. That’s mainly because I respect that it takes a lot more to make a clean song pop and hit hard as well. I know this all too well from the first Baltimore Commercial Break album from 2015 (which, while one of my more-inventive albums, was pretty difficult to make almost completely squeaky clean).
What some may perceive as lacking in profanities, the brother more than makes up with his lyrical content and his feel-good vibes. And that’s why we’re here. We’re not here for the “AFs” or the “MFers” (not all the time anyway). We’re here for dope music and–as we all know on SOTB–dope music comes in all different forms. So check this one out, add it to your workout and get your trophies. If you’re not your biggest cheerleader, you can’t expect anyone else to cheer you on.
