On Yayo Brinks’ “Cruising,” the singer/songwriter tries to make heads or tails of a relationship gone cold. She “takes trips down memory lane” while trying to move on. However, she can’t as easily as she’d like. Her vocals are clean and beautiful, which helped her story reach my ears and stay there for a while. There’re equal amounts of hurt and hope within her lyrics and voice, which gives her a sense of maturity and resolution that usually seems reserved for some of the elder statespeople in the game.
She’s picking up the pieces to gain more peace. I especially like the production here, as it’s pretty contemporary while still being deeply rooted in throwback vibes. Think a mix of Jhene Aiko and Monica. I think that Ms. Brinks has a bright future ahead of her, all things considered. Check out “Cruising” below and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
