Ukrainian-American R&B artist Kailaya’s “Lately” is one of those songs that’s about the “art of letting go” especially when the person you thought loved you wasn’t exactly the most-charitable with their love. She speaks on the effect that the relationship had on her, mentally and otherwise, and how she’s healing herself after letting go. I love the production and Kailaya’s vocals here, as the whole package reminds me a bit of an Amy Winehouse cut.
It’s beautiful in its scarred packaging, but also just smooth and emotionally-charged. I also like Kailaya’s altruism in putting this one together. That’s because proceeds from the track will be going to the Ukrainian humanitarian charity LifeLover, which provides humanitarian aid and helps the elderly community in Ukraine. So it’s heartfelt R&B with a purpose aside from its lyrics. Check out the visuals for “Lately” (which find the singer painting her feelings) below and support dope music in all its forms.
