A song about loneliness and dealing with it, Ollie’s “Wasted” finds the Canadian rapper discussing some somewhat toxic coping mechanisms, even though they’re ones that seem to work in the moment. Even though he’s still learning to cope better, sometimes you need a drink to get through it. I feel that because, admittedly, I’ve had some moments where I’ve been by myself and have been comforted by the bottle. It’s not pretty, but sometimes it gets the job done for the moment. I also like this song because of its visuals (below).
The visuals find Ollie by himself contemplating how to keep moving. Add that to lyricism that’s emotionally-charged and a guitar-heavy beat and you’ve got a song that’s sad but has a bit of hopefulness to it as well. The artist shows why he’s made a huge impact in the game in a short amount of time, blending poppy sensibilities to sad lyricism. This is slated to appear on his upcoming Even When I’m Happy I Listen to Sad Music project, which drops on May 27th. Check out the visuals above and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
