jonnychang Takes a Trip to the Past in “Plant” Visuals

The third visual from jonnychang and Solomon Chang’s The Weather Inside series, “Plant” finds jonny in the past. It’s kind of hard to tell what era specifically. Pikachu posters blend with photos of Jerome Randle, Cal Bear point guard phenom from the mid-to-late 2000s. However, the actual time isn’t really important. What’s important is the content of the video.

And during this blast from the past, “Plant” details a falsehood that some of us hold as truth: the past has all the right answers. In reality, we sometimes use memories of the past as more of a coping mechanism when things in the present don’t go right. The past doesn’t have the answers we seek all the time, and we should probably learn from the errors we made then–regardless of how small they are. This video continues jonny’s growth as a human over the course of his Weather Inside visuals and songs. All in all, it’s a fun video, but one with a pretty deep meaning as well.
