On Elijah Nang’s “Solitude,” the multifaceted producer creates a track that, quite frankly, feels like aloneness. That’s not a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination, as some of my favorite beatsmiths create songs and energies that convey real emotion without having verses on their productions. Think about how Dilla made people feel with his beats, think about how Madlib does the same. They’re perfect without bars–but the bars on them sometimes help push things over the edge.
That said, I’d love to hear someone rap over Elijah’s most-recent production. It’s a beautiful–albeit quite melancholy–production. It’s one that oozes emotion with every twinkle of the keys and throughout the spacey synths utilized on the song. You’re given a look into Nang’s soul in some ways, but also a look into his creative processes.
