Over somewhat ethereal production, the duo of SlimYungMan (the producer) and Val Ori (the songwriter/singer) give listeners a mix between sparse spaciness and throwback boombap. The song itself is about trying to figure out where one exists within a relationship, one that seems a bit destined to evolve into something else. Whether that “something else” is good or not is left up to the imagination. Ori’s vocals are strong and they remind me of a mix between Billie Eilish and Amy Winehouse, in that they’ve got that alt-R&B/alt-pop feel to them with a power behind the whisper-sung vocals as well.
