George Kalin’s “Benchwarmer” is a Pop Culture Smorgasbord

When the video for George Kalin’s “Benchwarmer” started, I was admittedly a bit confused. Kalin and his entourage were taking shots on a netless hoop. As soon as the first shot goes in, everyone goes wild and the trip of “Benchwarmer” kicks off. With references to anime, Cartoon Network series, sports and beyond, “Benchwarmer” is an interesting track with a fun, high-energy vibe and video to boot. It also helps that Kalin produced this one as well as mixed it and recorded it.

The song appears as the intro on Kalin’s Late Bloomer EP. The project is one which finds the nerdish rapper speaking on his path to where he is now, spitting lines on his Gambino meets Em tip (as he does on “Benchwarmer”) and just having fun while creating a project that gives you a nice view into who Kalin is as a person. I’m here for this sort of work, so check out the visuals to “Benchwarmer” below and support dope music in all its forms.
