JJ DOOM was the brainchild of MF DOOM and Jneiro Jarel, popping up in the early-to-mid 2010s. Ten years after their Key to the Kuffs project (which can be purchased via this Bandcamp link), we get a new remix to “Guv’nor.” Produced by legendary beatsmith Chad Hugo, this remix is bouncy and thumps in the whip. It’s got that classic Neptunes bounce and sound to it. Add that to hard-hitting lyrics that don’t take themselves overly seriously (but still serious enough), and you’ve got a banger.
Overall, this one deserves its flowers. That’s because, like DOOM and its parent project, it’s different but still somewhat familiar. Plus, it’s lyrical without beating you over the head with “hey look at me, I can rap well” moments and so on. I appreciate that about this song and DOOM as an artist overall.
