Hey all, it’s a Sunday evening. Kids (at least my kids) are getting ready to go back to school and my latest project, Something to Tide You Over, is about two weeks old. In the two weeks since it dropped, I’ve learned that “Back on My BS” is one of the big number songs off the project, outside of “Stay with Me” and “Tequilla.” People like Swaggy Speed, believe it or not. However, I’ve also got to give thanks and praise to the people who helped inspire the project. I’ll keep this brief, because it’s a Sunday evening and I know that people aren’t ready to read on a Sunday night.
Shoutout to True, Pegs, Shxggy and Benji for providing me beats and features for this project. I couldn’t have gotten the sound of turn-up boombap meets lyrical trap without you all–especially Benji on the beats. That’s my bro and, after Songs For 3: Immortal Connection, if he’s willing, I hope to have more collaborations with Speed and Benji. Bruh is a dope beatsmith, one that I’ve had the pleasure of working with for the last two-to-three-years.
I’ve got to give a big donkey-booty-sized shoutout to Ashley. She inspired a good chunk of this album (and the last few), from the autotuned stylings of “Stay with Me” and “I Need You,” to the lyrical rap aspects of the album. Ashley is a bomb-ass person, one who I’m thankful came into my life when she did. Otherwise, shoot, I may’ve been outta here, truth be told. Ashley saved me, just like I’ve said on numerous IG captions. It’s not just me saying that when I’m tipsy; Ashley’s helped me more than even she knows. So, I’ll do what I need to to make sure she’s good because I’ve got her until the world ends.
Finally, I’ve got to give a shoutout to my kids and their mom. They’ve all been an influence on my songs, regardless the era. Why? Well, on top of SOTB loving the kids, they all have helped me keep going when things got weird. I’ll just say that. Things got wild these last few months, but the kids (and their mom) have been there to keep me grounded.
So, if you still haven’t peeped STTYO, check it out above and support dope music in all its forms.
