I don’t think I have anything else to introduce you to Mark Vasquez, except this: if you want a mix between R&B, retro soul, alt-rap and blues, you’ll love his music. His latest, “Climb,” continues the wave he’s been on the last year or so. He offers some beautiful inspirational lyrics sang in a way that’s equally laidback and upfront. The message is simple (keep moving upward because, sometimes, there’s nowhere to go but up). However, the execution of everything is what holds it all together. I absolutely love the huskiness of his vocals, as they remind me of when my folks would turn on the Top 40 station in Baltimore and they’d play songs by groups such as the Dave Matthews Band and Hootie and the Blowfish. In fact, Vasquez’s vocals kind of remind me of Darius Rucker’s sound here. Check out the track above and support dope music in all its forms.
