When Tamani Joy drops new music, I shut up and listen. I may not always post about it, but I do always listen. It’s been that way since the young Baltimore-born artist first came across my desk personally about a year ago this November with “Terracotta.” It’s just something about the way he puts together music that reminds me of myself. I especially think it’s the experimentation, vocally and sonically, that reminds me of a young J Dot.
His latest, “TONIGHT,” is a smooth, vibe-heavy cuffing season anthem that finds him exploring a newfound freedom, a newfound love and what it all means to him. “TONIGHT” is one of those “hey babe, we don’t have to see the world. We can just chill here” sort of tracks. It’s also one that brings alt-rap, a dash of Baltimore club and electronica, and alt-R&B vibes and sounds together to create a soundscape that’s unique but also familiar.
It’s cuffing season, y’all. Find your dudes and shawties and stay warm. Hot [Person] Summer is over, so let’s cuddle up, exchange sweet nothings and vibe out in each other’s company. Check out “TONIGHT” below and support dope music in all its forms. Also, be on the lookout for more jams from Joy; he’s, as I mentioned previously, working on a full-length project.
