Over the last year or so, 888moment has been a constant presence on the SOTB site. The Baltimore native and rapper/producer/songwriter’s latest, Kill Your Ego!, is a genre-blending epic which talks about his experiences over the last year-plus. It also discusses what it means to be a young artist from a city such as Baltimore, without limiting its range or perspective to just Baltimore. On top of that, we get a collection of songs that talk about getting down to the basics, removing, well, the ego from the music and just creating good ish.
On songs like the BVLL-assisted “See the Light” and “No Peace,” we get a wide range of emotions and thoughts. Some of them deal with our fame-obsessed society. Some deal with being a Baltimore artist. Others still, they deal with 888’s personal life outside of music.
The project is one that’s a short listen, clocking in at 23:23–which’ll mean a lot if you’re into numerology. However, it’s one that may very well stick with you after its runtime. I really enjoyed the project, as it’s full of vivid imagery, great lyricism and production that’s both homegrown and universal, abstract and to-the-point. Check it out below and support dope music in all its forms.
