A rap collective that’s dedicated to providing great lyrics and conscious rhymes (without beating people over the head with their elevated mindsets), Xuper Heru’s HERU is one helluva album. The album speaks on God, religion, Black lives, and living well, even when a sea of low vibrations tries to take you under. However, what makes this one stand out is that the group is lyrical as hell. But, they also use their lyrics to help elevate the masses versus just condemn and damn the mainstream/talk down on those who aren’t yet on their level (either lyrically or mentally). That’s a commendable skill to have in conscious hip-hop.
Quite often, your average conscious rapper will disconnect from their targeted audience–because they talk down to the people they’re trying to lift up. That’s not the case here, thankfully (otherwise, I wouldn’t be talking about it). If you need some elevated lyrics that connect and hit you in the chest, this one’s for you. Heck, even if you just want dope bars, you’ll find them in bunches on HERU. I can’t pick a favorite song, especially because the trio submitted about eight of them originally–which is why I checked out the rest of the album. That said, the whole thing’s one wondrous listen.
