Riley Writts is a student of the game. On his latest, “Without Love,” the New York artist delivers a track that sounds like a mix between ATCQ’s “Stressed Out,” early Lupe and a dash of Big KRIT. In other words, it’s a song that’s, thematically, perfect for the SOTB site. I love the laidback nature of the production. However, what I really enjoyed and felt in my soul was the lyricism displayed here. Riley speaks on a variety of topics that have an effect on minority communities (especially the Black community) as well as topics that have an effect on hip-hop as a whole. From tricking off in the club when you should be saving money to drinking and drugging your pain away, Writts speaks on it all in a way that’s not elitist. Instead, he empathizes with his community and simply wishes that they would do better with their vices. Check out the song below and support dope music in all its forms.
