Mexx Heart Starts Over on Pretend

LGBTQ+ POC singer/songwriter Mexx Heart’s latest is a great entryway for the singer/songwriter. Here’s how Mexx describes the song.

Starting over after a particularly emotionally draining era of your life can be one of the scariest, but comforting, parts. It can be something as simple as buying a new couch because they’ve never sat in it or moving to a new place because they’ve never touched the walls. It’s not forgetting them, but erasing them in a way. It’s kind of beautiful.

I’ve been there and am, in some ways, there right now. I’ve moved on a while ago and am officially moving out in less than a month (hustle season is in full effect). But just about everything that I put in my new place, it’ll be–aside from my PS4, my TV and my cats–brand-new. And that’s awesome; a little scary, sure, but awesome. I’m loving the fact that I’ll have my own space where I can truly be me. I love the vocals here and the instrumentation. The instrumentation is simple but so effective.
