A mix between trapsoul and Roddy Ricch vocals, DMV native 301icon’s “Love Songs” features the artist speaking about love–and how, when it ends, you’re scarred in some way. That’s especially if they love ends in a way that’s traumatic. Featured on the 2022 EP Broken Lover II, the track serves as an intro to the themes 301icon presents. The singer/rapper visualizes some of these themes in a “bad to worse” sort of music video. The three-minute clip features him dealing with a woman who did him dirty, icon getting kidnapped and then seemingly dismembered. It’s a helluva scene, one that hammers home the point that breakups (and “damn girl you did me dirty” moments) can be hard to deal with. Hell, sometimes it’s as if the other person took a literal piece of you with them as things ended.
icon continuously states he hates love songs because of the way the relationship ended. After hearing/seeing the story presented in this video and the EP as a whole? I can’t blame him. Check out the project and visuals below and support dope music in all its forms.
