Jawn Locke Gets Biblical and Lyrical on “Eve”

Artist Jawn Locke’s “Eve” is equally parts “let’s rap about the Original Sin” and “love, even the most tawdry and forbidden of loves, can come and leave in an instant” vibes. Using the story about the Original Sin as a backbone for his contemplations on love, Jawn’s got a sort of Kendrick Lamar thing going with the lyrics, down to the GKMC-era voice manipulation. It’s a pretty interesting song, one that features a thumpy-but-slow beat and equally slowed down (damn near melancholic) flow. I like “Eve” because it makes his story, compares it to that of the Original Sin and then runs with it. This is definitely deserving of its “alternative hip-hop” subgenre.
