Life has a weird way of getting us to take notice of what’s important. For me, it was when my mom died eight years and one day ago. Mama Young’s death brought my closer to God, curbed a lot of self-destructive behaviors and just tried to live better. Jus’.1’s life was also taken to a dark place, as he’s lost family members recently. The candidness which Jus’ speaks with on “Overdose” is impressive, yes. It’s also just real and honest. I mean, we’ve gotten to a point in 2023 where mental health raps aren’t as niche as they were even five years ago. Jus’ speaks on addiction, his mental health and coping with his losses while still trying to pull himself out of these dark days, weeks and months. It’s an interesting song, one that features on Jus’s Pain album. If you’re intrigued with what Jus’ is putting down here, I recommend checking out the entire album and, you know, supporting dope music in all its forms.
