So, you’ve been probably wondering what in the fuck does this #SEPT5SOTB nonsense have to do with anything. A lot. So, let me take you through some history.
On September 5, 1920, my father was born. So, that’s why I want to announce these things on this date versus some random day. Everything that I do is methodical and thought out, even when I’m unhinged and the like. This makes me a very dangerous foe, but a valuable friend. But, you’re not here to hear me ramble about shit.
My first announcement is this: I’ve been living a double life. No, I’m not gay or anything like that. Over the past couple months, I’ve been crafting other forms of music under a guise. Long story short, @BmoreSupplier is me moving into the field of DJing, dance music, and Baltimore Club Music. You ask “but, Speed…why not just do it under one name to keep from confusing people?” Well, the reason is this: The Baltimore Supplier is completely different than the main Speed on the Beat brand. It was something I’ve done before I ever adopted the Speed on the Beat moniker, but stopped to focus on actual rap and other things, such as school. It’s still included, but it’s so abstract from what I do as Speed on the Beat that it needed it own entity, its own “life,” if you will. Plus, club music and dance music has always been a great way for me to release some creative energy and focus. I plan to release more mixes in the #SearchingforAuroraJolie series under this moniker, hopefully culminating in an actual physical/digital album of all-original Baltimore Club Music, a la K-Swift (RIP) and other BCM pioneers. If I’m lucky, DTLR will put some copies out to sell.
My second announcement is this: On December 31st, 2013, I plan to release an album. This album will not be no-fi. It won’t be the final part of the “Songs For…” Trilogy, either. Instead, the album in question, Unhinged, will feature a side of Speed on the Beat that I’ve hidden for a while: the angry side that doesn’t give a shit about anyone, the side of Speed on the Beat that has some demons in his chest that he hides for various reasons. Listeners got a taste of that on RAQUEL RELOADED/One Year Later, but on Unhinged, I’m going full-tilt with it.
The album will have more of a “mainstream” feel, but a lot of people will probably still not get why. And I’m okay with that; just listen to it and then figure out. Writing-wise, it’s completed, and I hope to have it recorded by mid-October at the latest, as I’ve a pre-order thing going. If you pre-order the album, you’ll get the first single from the album “Lamar Odom” free of charge. Yeah, it’s that type of album. It’ll be available through my BamdCamp, so you can name your own price for the most part.
Finally: After the release of Unhinged, I’m getting back to work on the final part of the “Songs For…” Trilogy, the aptly titled Death of the King. It will release, if all goes according to plan, August 17th, 2014. That’s a Sunday and the one-year-anniversary of the release of Songs For…. It will also, for the foreseeable future, be my last album as a rapper. When I first started this, I had a plan to leave the mic alone by the time I was 27, and just focus on other aspects of music. I plan to stick to that. Because, by the end of Death of the King (or DOTK), I would’ve told my story. I would’ve gone through pretty much 26 years of my life, and that’s more crazy shit than most people go through in their lives. By the point of Death of the King, I would’ve been in music for pretty much my whole life, so I don’t feel like speaking too much more after it. To be honest, I love music and it’s always going to be a part of me, but I’m getting to the point where I need to make a choice: music or my family. I chose music once before, along with other things, and that’s how we got to RAQUEL RELOADED/One Year Later. So, this time, I’m choosing family. In short, by the time I’m 27, that’s it, unless something amazing comes along, or I feel the need to talk about something else in my life.
