Fredriquez Chaney AKA DripSet Freaky AKA Lil Freaky was born and raised on the west side of Atlanta, GA. The second oldest of five brothers, Dripset was forced to become the man of the house, to help support his single mother. At fifteen, any childhood he had left came to a halt, when he found out he was going to be a father.
With an additional mouth to feed, he knew he would have to work twice as hard to make sure his family had the bare essentials to survive. After losing some close friends to the streets and the prison system, DripSet decided he needed a more stable source of income. With Atlanta being the music mecca of the south and an epicenter of hip-hop culture, he figured no one could do it better than him. Merging the lyrical/emotional mindset of Nas and entrepreneurial mindset of Big Meech, DripSet took to the mic with one thing on his mind, MONEY!!! DripSet Freaky’s original moniker, “Lil Freaky”, was bestowed upon him by his late mentor Big Dawg Slim, who called him “Lil Freaky Fred” when he was fathering his first child at the tender age of 15.
In 2016, he launched his #Dripset campaign which was the catalyst for his name switch to “Drip Set Freaky”. In early 2017 Drip Set earned the #9 spot on DJ Pack’s Top 20 Hottest Hip Hop and R&B Records, and also caught the eye of fellow Atlanta’rapper Future – who’s featured on his single “Drip Set” and has since become his mentor/ big brother. His content sheds light on the struggles of the street life, while pushing people to want better for themselves. He represents the opportunity to make it out of a struggle that most aren’t able to overcome. In the words of his favorite poet, Egdar Albert Guest, he keeps his “eyes front” and “head high” to the finish to see his dreams through.
