Above is a video from Houston artist ArmstrongWW entitled “Control.” What I expected and what I got were two completely different things. When Armstrong hit my line with this one, I expected bars and melodies, yes. I mean, the brother describes himself as a mix between soul and alternative hip-hop. What I got was like if Awaken, My Love had Kendrick rapping over a few songs while Gambino sang. “Control” is a feelgood track that instructs its listeners to embrace the good in the world, even when things look dark. It’s also about, well, gaining control of self in situations where things look confusing.

The eighteen-year-old artist, in a write-up of what I should look for in the track, stated that the song was more about a relationship he experienced. At the end of the day, he had to leave because he didn’t have the time for confusion and iffy people and scenarios. A lot of maturity comes through on this track, and it’s one that’ll definitely have you moving your feet as the chorus instructs. Check it out above and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
