Following up from last month’s Black Gold EP, NoFace, Rapper taps more into the rappity-rap zone and excels with Filthy. A three-track EP of bars for days, we see Face rapping with the same fire as his Black-powered release from last month. However, what makes this one different is that, while we know Face as a rapper who’ll do anything to aid the plight of his fellow man, he’s also not above showing us why he’s one of the most-impressive artists from the DMV out now. His lyricism is on point and his beat selection is as well. If Black Gold was his Nipsey Hussle moment of elevating the Black community, Filthy is his early Nas “I’m going to outrap anyone in my path” moment mixed with a bit of Beanie Sigel. The project is a perfect companion piece to Black Gold, though, as it shows the other side of the Black plight in some ways while still being a smooth listen.
