If SHDW’s modern-day masterpiece “Big Up” was the artist’s take on a traditional hip-hop song, “Lie to Me” features the Baltimore artist’s take on an 808s and Heartbreak-era Kanye track. On “Lie to Me,” SHDW harmonizes while asking his intended audience to tell him everything’s okay even when the world’s falling apart at his feet.
The Tilak-produced song features haunting melodies over a sparse beat, which adds to the isolation SHDW gives us on this one. He knows his journey can be somewhat self-destructive or to his own detriment, but he’s got to continue on it to ultimately reach his peak. It’s that duality that makes this song a must-listen and has me pumped for SHDW’s upcoming Summer in the SHDWs, which is slated to drop next Thursday. Check out the song below and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
