DIE-REK‘s latest track features four lyrical experts ripping a straight-from-the-90s-sounding beat. There’s really nothing else I can say except it’s a great trunk-rattling boombap sort of song. Play it as loud as possible. However, you come to SOTB to hear more than just “it’s good,” so here’re some more thoughts on “Get Nervous.”
Each artist steps up to the mic and lets naysayers and haters know why they shouldn’t step to the team, mainly because each member of this de facto quartet has the skill to eviscerate just about any opponent. Lyrically, it’s sound and sonically, each artist’s delivery matches the beat’s energy. This one, in contrast to REK’s first appearance on SOTB, is less “live your best life” and more “be afraid if you speak incorrectly about me and what I do.” In other words, it shows the diversity of the Canadian rhymesayer as he doesn’t need to stick to one set style of hip-hop to get his point across. In a world of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” it’s refreshing to hear artists do more than just one style of hip-hop. Check out the track above and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
