J Nolan is a name that SOTB readers may remember from the early days of the site. I’m talking the “I’m working on my mental health while working on Songs For 1” days.
On “Speed of Life,” Shane Kidd recruits Nolan and Lucius to talk a bit about anxiety and how we’ve got to sometimes slow down. Kidd, Nolan and Lucius provide stories about how we’ve got to take things at our own pace. I love this one because it reminds me a bit of an early Lupe song, in that it’s lyrically sound but also contains subject matter sometimes unheard of in hip-hop. The way that the trio come together on this one is also something special, as each artist seems to pull even more greatness out of each other. In that sense, it reminds me of a DAR Elite track because everyone’s there to help everyone else get theirs and elevate their game–all while elevating those around them, too. Check out the track below (and its visual) and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
Anxiety can kick anyone’s ass. That said, we can overcome it by taking a breather, collecting ourselves and pushing forward at our own pass.
