Super Nike Nando’s been an artist who’s been on my radar since the days when I was J Dot Speed. That also means I’m showing my age by saying “I remember him from when he had the Street Fighter branded logo.” So hearing that he’s still doing music, and dope music at that, is a great thing. It’s a great thing for me when I see people I came up with (in some ways) that are still out here and doing the damn thing.
His latest, “OFF TOP,” speaks on his traumas, his past and his growth as a man and as an artist. I’m here for this because it also shows a different side of SNN than what we typically get. That’s because he’s usually a bit more playful, a bit more “I’m here to rap my ass off and forget the BS”; this one is more about addressing some things and getting some weights off his chest.
The brother’s been through a lot over the last few years, between losing people close to him and becoming a father. All of that growth, loss and maturation, for me, comes to a head on “OFF TOP” and we’re given some of the most-honest music from him. That’s not to say he’s never honest, because the brother is always 100 about everything. However, here? It’s…super honest (pun unintended).
Check out the track below (it just dropped Monday) and support dope music in all its forms.
