The first single from Homeboy Sandman’s There in Spirit album, “Keep That Same Energy,” just dropped today. Over a gritty beat, Sandman talks about the fuckery and fakery going on in the world today. Be it because of the internet or because we’re hidden behind masks and lockdowns for the last three years, people seem…”embiggened” to talk and move foolishly.
Produced by Illingsworth, the track finds the veteran rhymesayer darting through topics at a somewhat breakneck pace. That is all while still telling people to just be real with their moving about and energies. No one wants fake crap all the time, especially when that same fakeness can find you on the business end of a two-piece. Be mindful that your tough talking on the internet can and–most likely–will catch up to you. So don’t be surprised when someone asks you to simply keep that same energy out and about as you had talking out the side of your neck online. That seems to be the moral of the story here. Homeboy Sandman does it so effortlessly that the track feels like a breeze, even though it’s dealing with a pretty hot topic.
