Anytime one of the OGs is involved in a track, my ears perk up and I shut up and listen. This one, a smooth cut called “Close” by Jibriel, features the legendary Teddy Riley on the talkbox. Sonically, this one reminds me of a 1980s/1990s slow jam, specifically something you’d hear from a group like Guy, Blackstreet or Jodeci. However, there are a lot of modern sensibilities as well, specifically some of the lyrics Jibriel sings in the song. It’s a great mesh of old and new. The visuals are kind of a mix between The Matrix and Drake’s “Hold On We’re Going Home” video with just the right amount of sensuality interspersed within the video. Check out the song and its video below and remember to do the thing and support dope music in all its forms.
