Detroit rapper/producer MoCity Jones’ latest continues the vibes he gave us on his SOTBMusic debut. However, “Wave” is undeniably a bop with a ton of conscious elements. His flow, lyricism and the soulful beat are what make me want to post about this one and hear more from him. It’s like a mix between KIDS Mac Miller’s wordplay and flow and Cole’s socially-conscious lyricism. In other words, if you need some soulful boombap-esque vibes on this Friday, this one’s for you. Hell, even if that’s not your usual Friday go-to, the beat and the energy on this one will grab you and make you reconsider.
Subject matter-wise, the track is simple. It’s about the wave of successes Jones has found himself on over the last few years. As a fellow slightly-nerdy lyrical assassin, I respect this one because it’s a great song about rising up to the challenge and knocking it out the park. I also like it because of the way Jones rides the beat. He makes his flows sound so effortless, but still full of energy and ferociousness. Check it out below and do the thing: support dope music in all its forms.
