Over a soulful sample, Asn Alpha decided to rap his butt off. That’s always a surefire way to get me to peep your music. However, besides just rapping fire bars, Alpha lets his bars tell the story of a man who’s trying to make it, despite being on his solo dolo.
He’s trying to make it in a world where lyricism isn’t as desired in the mainstream. He’s trying to make it as a man in a world where Black men are sometimes viewed as less than, especially if they’re from so-called country areas of the US. Perhaps more importantly, he’s trying to carve his own route to his happiness and successes without following the roads travelled by other artists. I love the production here (I’m always a sucker for good soul beats), but I’m in love with the lyricism that much more.
Over four minutes, the Summerville native cracks through the facades of many while also presenting his own story for the world to see. Truthfully, you can’t ask for much more on an SOTBMusic debut. Check out the song below and do the thing: support dope music in all its forms.
